Artist Research

In order to brainstorm a potential artist, we needed to look at some real media examples and assess the features of each artist category. In this post, the artist categories we will be looking at are: Solo females, girl bands and boy bands. At this point we have already ruled out male solo artists as we doubt we'd find anyone willing to do it.

Solo female:

Concentration on one person
Attractive, sexy, fashionable, immaculately styled
Focused around the artist, eg. a break up, or love song

Miley Cyrus
Pixie Lott
Katy Perry
Britney Spears
P!nk
Eliza Doolittle
Lana Del Rey
Taylor Swift
Adele
Shakira
Beyoncé
Avril Lavigne
Kylie Minogue
Madonna

Group/band:

Split concentration, different personas can be established
Songs and videos themed more around friendship and unity
Band- instruments are played, so groups usually consist of four or more people, primarily with one main soloist.
Group- all members sing, in solos and in harmony, with each song consisting of a different set up of the girls/boys singing each part.

The Beatles
McFly
Blur
Busted
One Direction
Take That
Boyzone
Arctic Monkeys
Muse

The Saturdays
Little Mix
The Pussycat Dolls
B*Witched
Sugababes

At this point we know we are either going to have a solo female or a girl band as we thought given the fact that we are females, we'd construct a female artist identity better. Furthermore, trying to direct and control a male group could be difficult.
